Vandaveer-But Enough Of That For Now

Thanksgiving is a special day.

We set aside time to be with loved ones and family members we don’t get to see all that often. Gathering together we come to celebrate another year of life. We giggle, hug, whisper, and chat while we remark on the growth and changes in each of us. It is a truly remarkable moment in time which needs some quiet reflection.

This year we celebrated with a party of 25 and multiple generations. We all converge in the North Carolina mountains and happily hang out for two days. It is crazy when I think about the immense gorging of food that results in a beautiful comatosed state of satisfaction. The holiday is built in with mega cooking because we have learned from past years that the amount of food for the hungry masses is critical for a joyous gathering.

As a pot luck feast, I feel incredibly blessed by the wide variety of yummy and sometimes exotic foods. I particularly enjoy the newest trial recipes and tasty experiments of unconventional flavors. But also, all hail to the yummy staples of Thanksgiving! Just as the food is varied and diverse, so are the people that make up the long crowded tables of celebration. A year’s growth is much to reflect on and honor.

Yep, right now as I write this, I know I have prepared and eaten massive amounts of food, washed hundreds of dishes,  sipped on several glasses of wine, but more importantly caught up with those that are near and dear to me.

I am thankful.

I am thankful for good health, family, and the lovely determination to gather even when it isn’t an easy feat. Each Thanksgiving has become a special tradition where memories are made and my heart can’t help but swell with gratitude and love.

This is a song which captured my attention today. It reminds me of the many complicated chapters which make up our own personal stories. I am fortunate that I am surrounded by a loving family who care and appreciate all that I am and hope to be. Tomorrow, we will leave this large gathering of relatives to travel on to a new location and celebrate Thanksgiving again with another set of our dear family.

I feel truly blessed.

Listen.

Vandaveer is a  folk rock band out of Kentucky. Their Facebook bio says,

“From VANDAVEER is the song-singing, record-making, globetrotting project penned and put forth by Kentucky-based tunesmith Mark Charles Heidinger. With poignant, everyman narrativesand striking, folk-based harmonies, Vandaveer loosely fall under the Americana umbrella, but the band regularly elbow their way into wider spaces with a kaleidoscopic assortment of sounds.

Vandaveer shapeshift from stage to studio and back with a host of revolving characters, most prominent among them Rose Guerin, offering up the loveliest harmonies heard this side of Eden.”

A well written biography of Vandaveer which perfectly reflects the thoughtful lyrics in each of the songs. “But Enough of That For Now” is a tune from Vandaveer’s latest album release, The Wild Mercury.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend to you all!
