I am always looking for music with a wondrous sparkle, interesting lyrics, and compelling vocals. This yearning led me to The Wombats recent album release, Fix Yourself, Not The World. In addition to the incredible album name, it is full of catchy hooks, danceable moments, and choruses full of ‘sunglasses needed’ brightness. The fifth full-length album for the British indie rock trio was recorded remotely due to the COVID-19 lockdowns, and it proves to be a confident, warmly seasoned indie-pop. The songs provide a wide brushstroke of styles to linger in your mind and stay interesting. They have a keen ability to construct an upbeat sound with dark moody lyrics, showcasing an intriguing contrast. This album is pleasurable and satisfying with a definite exuberant zest. It is a much needed sound to offset the gray blah of my mid-winter mood.
The Wombats are an English indie rock band formed in Liverpool in 2003. The band’s line-up is Matthew Murphy, Tord Øverland Knudsen, and Dan Haggis, and have sold over 1 million albums worldwide. They have slowly released songs for almost a year, leading up to their January 14th release of Fix Yourself, Not The World.
Here are my favorite songs, but I honestly find the entire album to be my latest 2022 jam. I highly recommend you put it on your must listen list.
