31 Days in Music
Day 7
Happy Monday, y’all! The torrential rains of yesterday passed through pretty quickly and left a clear blue sky for today, with a little chill in the air. So, it is a happy Monday for me. Also, my music submissions cup runneth over! This is good news for you, but it also keeps me listening for hours, to find the perfect sounds to share with you. Giving you 31 Days of music is harder than I ever thought it would be.
Then, I spotted it. I received a press release of The Avett Brothers performing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, September 30th. I hate that I missed it. Now, after watching it myself, I have to share it with you so that you can hear how truly gifted they are. They were visiting Jimmy promoting their new album, Magpie And The Dandelion which will release on October 15. The countdown is on!
The Avett Brothers are from Concord, North Carolina. They consist of two brothers, Scott and Seth, and are joined by Bob Crawford, and Joe Kwon. I struggle to pinpoint their musical style because it covers so many genres. The Avett Brothers describe their music as rock, but I think there is more to them than just rock. I had to go to Wikipedia and I found that even they weren’t able to classify them specifically. According to Wikipedia, “they combine bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk, and ragtime”. Wow, you see what I mean?
They are gifted songwriters and musicians, but in this video they are also joined by Chris Cornell of SoundGarden. His guitar and voice adds something truly special to their new song, “Vanity”. Their new album, Magpie And The Dandelion was actually recorded at the same time as the last album, The Carpenter, which was critically acclaimed and was the 4th most sold album in the US for 2012. I can’t wait for this new album release, especially after seeing this performance.
Tonight (October 7th) they will perform on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and play, “Morning Song”, also from the new album. If you like them, don’t miss it! I know that I will be watching for sure.
