Today I have a new obsession, and it is a song that has just floated by me recently. I can’t get enough of it. Bear Hands is a post punk, indie rock band out of Brooklyn, NY. They are Dylan Rau (vocals/guitar), Val Loper (bass), Ted Feldman (guitar), and TJ Orscher (drums). There is not a lot of information out there about them, other than touring with Passion Pit, and opening on occasion for MGMT, Vampire Weekend, and The XX just after the release of their first album, Burning Bush Supper Club, in 2010 through Cantora Records.
The song, “Giants” isn’t really new to those who have already heard Bear Hands. Although they just recently released it, officially, a couple of months ago. The song is a somewhat rapping rant, with an indie twist. Bear Hands has a sweet layering of instruments that really intrigues me while the lyrics connect with me.
“You’re loving me
whether you want to or not,
but I want you for sure
I am loving you more.”
Who doesn’t long to hear those words when they are truly sincere? The guitar chords are pleasingly simple, but the arrangement of vocals and sound has a very cool vibe. I can’t get it out of my head, which tells me that the hook is just prime for a spirited sing-a-long. Can you imagine them live? Yep, after further investigation, wouldn’t you know it, they are headed south to the Savannah Stopover in March…..I am thinking that is just about right for a spring road trip. Check out Bear Hands on Facebook or their website for more info.
