Sharon Van Etten-Taking Chances

Blessed be, a lovely new song from one of my favorite songstresses, Sharon Van Etten. I think her voice is beautifully mesmerizing, but her lyrics are just as compelling. Give her a listen. Guess we will have to wait patiently for her album, Are We There? It doesn’t appear until May 27th.

Turn on the charm
Call to response now
Sitting on the porch
Looking for a way out

Touched on me deep
That’s why I’m still here
Why do we think that we know plight?

Even I’ve taken my chances
Even I’ve taken my chances
All you remember

In the dark
On the way out
It’s even enough sounds
It’s the combination that takes emotions
Why don’t we go now?
No need to think on our own now about it

Even I’ve taken my chances
Even I’ve taken my chances
On you

When you love all of you, they know all of you
Be alone and take, and you break for your sake
About to leave, about to leave

Even I’ve taken my chances
Even I’ve taken my chances
On you

Sharon Van Etten is quoted as saying, “I really hope that when someone puts my record on that they hear me.”

This is what I  wrote about her when I reviewed my favorite songs of 2012 on my other music site.

Sharon Van Etten – “Serpents”

The girl with the guitar and the ethereal voice gets me every time. I appreciate her pouty and hurt lyrics and find them to match my mood on occasion. Throughout this song, her music remains stronger than her discontent and I can find a certain human power in the vibe.

Yep, it is still, all true.
