Iron and Wine and Band Of Horses-This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)

Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses and Sam Beam of Iron and Wine have been friends for a while now, and have just announced a collaborative project that will be released July 17th, Sing Into My Mouth. All 12 songs on the album are cover songs and each left an impression on both of them. Beam has expressed,

“…It was nostalgic and fun from top to bottom-the process of picking the songs to cover was really reminiscent of more than 15 years ago when we used to mail each other cassettes and CD’s of music we were into…”

Sing Into My Mouth was recorded last summer at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC. Yep, just up the road from my little abode. Asheville is an incredibly hip, creative town surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountain beauty of western NC.

There is no one, and I mean no one that can match the intensity and sound of David Byrne, but somehow I am deeply impressed by this cover of  “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)”, an all time top tune of mine. I would love to hear what you think.

“And you love me till my heart stops

love me till I’m dead

eyes that light up, eyes look through you

cover up the blank spots

hit me on the head and say

Ahhhh oooh”

We, here in Atlanta, will be some of the first to experience a concert of this amazing collaboration and exciting new album at The Tabernacle on July 20th.

I can’t wait. Here’s the impressive track list.
