Celebrate!

So today is Valentine’s Day. Personally, I believe we should express our love everyday, but perhaps it is also important to lavish it openly on a special day. Valentine’s Day gives us a chance to celebrate our heart and share it with those we love.

Examine

Yet, this Valentine’s Day, I need to examine my heart as well. I need to look within and determine how I can protect it, nurture it, and care for it properly.

Do you have moments in your life where you feel as if your heart stops in shock and confusion? It could be deeply sad news, a misconstrued conversation, watching a loved one in pain, a near accident in your car, or even a crazy spooky sound in the dark, All of those can seriously challenge your heart and your happy go lucky attitude.

As the sun came up this morning, I lay in bed reflecting the past few days. I felt my heart flutter in a panic stricken way. I have mitral-valve prolapse. When I feel stress, it occurs more often. The sensation is worrisome, but I am told it is not life threatening. It is a condition in which the two valve flaps of the mitral valve do not close smoothly or evenly, but instead bulge upward into the left atrium. Essentially it feels as if a valve door flaps very rapidly to right itself.

Lately, I have been under some serious stress. Just when life seems honest and open and easier, another crazy unexpected life changing occurance happens. It puts a toll on those I love, on me, and on my heart.

So, I must make time to examine my heart. I must define ways to react or not react to inflammatory actions and statements. Lately, this heart of mine is being misguided by others and I have to right it and remember that I have some wonderful people that believe in me and my heart. It has taken a very long time to build those deep friendships and nurture and love the people closest to me. I should know better than to take advice or expect any clarity or understanding from those who barely know me, or my life, or what is most important.

Love.

Love is where all things begin and where they all end and nothing else really matters.

So today, celebrate the matters of your heart and the one you love, but also take the time to examine it and learn how to protect it to be sure you are not giving it away randomly.

A tender song to listen to on what should be a very caring day. I hope you might find a safe place and you can let your heart beat there.

Dashboard Confessional-Heart Beat Here

“Come on home and let yourself heal
You could sleep for a thousand years
I won’t let you disappear
Let your heart beat here

You’ve been running far and wide
Doing what you hope is right
Chasing what you feel inside
I will take your path as mine

I feel it in my ribs
Feel it in my soul
The pulse just grows
So loud and so clear
Let your heart beat here
Let your heart beat here

Winter’s come to take me away
I wear my ring to know what’s at stake
And when the day’s work at their own pace
You remain my time and place

I feel it in my ribs
Feel it in my soul
The pulse just grows
So loud and so clear
Let your heart beat here
So loud and so clear
Let your heart beat here
Yeah, let your heart beat here

We found our way past our youthful fears
And fought our way through the pain and tears
And we drove our stakes in the place most deep
And let our hearts beat…

I feel it in my ribs
Feel it in my soul
The pulse just grows
So loud and so clear
Let your heart beat here
So loud and so clear
Let your heart beat here
Yeah, let your heart beat here
Let your heart beat here”

Dashboard Confessional is a four piece acoustic/rock/indie band from Florida, Chris Carrabba with lead vocals and on guitar, Scott Schoenbeck on bass,  Armon Jay on guitar, and Chris Kamrada on drums. They have recently released their new album, Crooked Shadows and will soon begin their promotional tour for the album. They have a concert in Atlanta on March 23rd at the Buckhead Theater, but be sure to check out their entire tour schedule, HERE.

Their tune, “Heart Beat Here”, is a tender love song where the impeccable vocals are placed in the forefront and highlighted by an acoustic guitar, while soaring strings chime in for the chorus. It is just a snippet of the golden, fresh sounds of Dashboard Confessional.
