Jim James-Throwback

Jim James just released a new album this past weekend, but honestly, I have been listening to this early release track for weeks. It is nostalgic and sweet. It reminds me about what I have loved, lost, and also gained.

The more I listen, the more I appreciate the depth of the simple, heartfelt lyrics. “Throwback” is an anthem of reflection, but also reminding us of our inner humanity, everlasting hope and celebratory love if we stay present.

Jim James of My Morning Jacket fame has just released his latest album, Uniform Distortion. “Throwback” is such a stellar track, I will sink into the album ahead of his extensive solo acoustic tour and soak up all of James’ new music. Jim James has always found a way to musically share his wide yet personal perspective about the world we share. This track was a take on social media today. It reflects how everything we see on social media is a snapshot of something that has already passed. There is an unhealthy way of looking back, instead of focusing on the present and planning the future with our significant others.

Listen.

Jim James-Throwback

“Turn back the pages in the rays of the sun
Throw back Thursday to the way that it was
When we were young, when we were young

Scroll back in time through your account
Watch your face grow younger as real time runs out
Throw back Thursday to the way that it was
When we were young, when we were young

Oh, all the potential in the world
When we were young
All the potential in the world
When we were young, when we were young

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before
You know you caught my eye as I was headed out the door
I swear I know your face from another time, another place
When we were young, when we were young

Oh, all the potential in the world
When we were young
All the potential in the world
When we were young, when we were young

Who knows how much time we ever really have?
Together in this life or on our separate paths
We go through so many days, so many lives, so many ways
We fall apart, we come together, so in love
Yeah, to be loved, to be loved, loved

Oh, all the potential in the world
When we were young
All the potential in the world
Still living now, living now
Now”
